Did you choose the right foundation?

Many girls want a clean and clear base makeup like this. But why does our makeup look dirty? Why does it come off? Why does it get stuck? Choosing the right foundation, In addition to our right choice of tools, another important reason is: you chose the.

wrong foundation !

Mistake 1: Choosing the wrong color

I listened to some beauty bloggers and chose a foundation that was one shade darker, which made my makeup look heavy and dull. The bigger problem was that the color I chose was too light, which made me look like I had crawled out of a flour jar. Not only did it not fit my neck, but it also showed through my darker skin tone.

Mistake 2: Choosing the wrong recipe

I have dry skin and I chose a refreshing foundation, which caused it to cake and left wrinkles on my face every time I smiled.

I have oily skin and chose a moisturizing foundation, which caused my makeup to come off and rub off. It would be better not to wear it at the end of the day.

Let’s take a look at how to choose the right foundation. (For those who don’t want to hear the theory and just want to choose, skip steps 1 and 2 and go directly to step 3.)

▎Step 1: Know your skin

Skin color (Shade & Undertone)

You may have seen many beauty experts tell you to judge the so-called “cool skin” and “warm skin” (some say pink and yellow). Look at the color of veins, whether gold or silver looks better. Most girls will be confused by this and can’t tell whether they have cool skin or warm skin. In the end, this cool skin and warm skin test method is becoming more and more like a metaphysics, and it does not really help to choose the right base color.

Many students may have judged whether they have cool or warm skin based on the picture below, and found that their veins seem to be between blue and green… Then they wondered, what kind of skin do I have? ( ⊙ o ⊙ )

Skin Tone
Skin Tone

This cold skin and warm skin argument ignores another skin color that accounts for a large proportion:

Neutral tone. (“NEUTRAL TONE” in the picture below)

In fact, most Asian women have neutral skin tones. (Even among white people, there are not many people with cool skin, unlike what many people say, “most white people have cool skin.”

It should be noted that all three tones in the Pantone color system are based on yellow. “Cool tone” here refers more to red skin tone (you can see many tiny red blood vessels on the face, which feels rosy).

It should also be noted that these tones are relative, not absolute.

It will be clearer if you look at this picture. This is a color chart of a certain brand’s foundation. You can see that it has released more colors in the US market than in the Taiwan market, and the label of what is called neutral color in the US has been translated into “yellowish skin” to cater to the feeling of most Asian girls who feel that they are “yellowish”.

Conclusion: Don’t worry too much about the foundation on cool or warm skin. Even if your skin is slightly red or slightly yellow (unless you are super red or super yellow), you can still choose a neutral-toned foundation to adjust the skin color. (Many primers have the same effect, purple balances yellow skin, and green balances redness.)

After talking about warmth and coldness, there is nothing much to say about depth and shallowness. One word:

Try. (The method of trying will be explained in detail in the third step)

Skin Type

There are many different ways to classify skin types, but I prefer the following classification. You can tell the BA when you choose at the counter:

I have dry skin all over my face (the area around my nose and forehead is not oily, but my cheeks are prone to cracking and flaking)

My T-zone is normal and my cheeks are dry. (The T-zone will be slightly oily after a whole day, and the cheeks may feel dry sometimes)

My T-zone is slightly oily, but the rest is normal. (The T-zone is often a little oily, but the cheeks are not dry)

My entire face is oily. (If I don’t use oil-absorbing paper, my face will become oily and makeup will come off easily.)

▎Step 2: Know the types of liquid foundation

Each brand and series of foundations have different targets for different skin types and desired effects. You can choose different foundations according to your skin type. The following pictures show some classic foundations for different skin types.

▎Step 3: Go to the counter to try the foundation

You must try it when choosing a foundation!

Go to a reliable cosmetics counter. * Never go to a franchise store of some small brand you have never heard of. First, there is no choice, and second, the BA is not professional.

Tell the counter BA your skin type (if you don’t know how to describe it, please see step 2) and ask her to recommend a foundation brand that suits your skin type. Choose three to five colors that are close to your skin tone and apply them together on the junction of your face and neck. *Remember not to apply on the back of your hand to test the color, as the back of your hand will be different from your face.

Then choose the color that disappears on your face.

Don’t ever choose a color that “looks so white, I think it will turn white too”!!! If none of the colors you tried disappear (for example, you only tried 1, 3, and 4), then ask the BA to find another color for you to try. Don’t settle for anything!

After choosing the right color, remember the color number of this brand (for future reference). Then ask the BA to apply it on a large area for you and check if there is any floating powder, stuck powder, or wasted powder.

If you have patience, you can go somewhere else and come back for an hour.

1. Does it work well under natural light outdoors?

2. Check whether the makeup is coming off, stuck or becomes darker after one hour.

Girls who are more particular and careful can also choose different types of autumn and winter liquid foundation and summer liquid foundation in winter and summer.

What should I do if I accidentally choose the wrong foundation?

If you choose the wrong shade, you can apply a lighter shade on the T-zone to highlight it, and if you choose a darker shade, you can apply it to the cheekbones to create shadows.

If you choose the wrong one because of your skin type~~

Suppose you have dry skin and choose a refreshing foundation, it will cause the foundation to stick: mix a small amount of moisturizing cream or 2 drops of essence before applying each time, use a makeup brush instead of a beauty egg or triangular sponge to apply makeup, and reduce the amount of loose powder used.

If you have oily skin and choose a moisturizing foundation, which results in an oily face: use a triangular sponge or beauty egg to apply makeup, absorb excess oil, and then use a powder puff to press on pressed powder or loose powder to ensure that the powder particles absorb the oil and set the makeup.

But the above are just waste utilization measures and cannot replace choosing the correct foundation!
