1. Start with a clean face and hands. Wash your face with warm water and a facial cleanser suitable for your skin type. Splash your face with cool water and pat dry gently with a soft towel.

Moisturizer prevents your skin from losing water throughout the day, so it is most effective to use it after washing your face.

2. Consider applying some toner with a cotton ball or cotton pad. Toner will help restore the pH level of your skin. It also helps tighten your pores. This is especially important if you plan to put on makeup later.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, choose an alcohol-free toner.

3. If you are using any eye cream, apply eye cream first. Take a small amount on your ring finger and gently apply under the eyes. Avoid pulling the skin under the eyes.

The ring finger is the weakest finger and is perfect for the delicate skin under the eyes.

4. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of cream onto the back of your hand. Don’t worry if you squeeze out too little. A little often goes a long way. You can always apply more if necessary.

If the cream comes in a jar, then use a small spoon or ladle to scoop out a small amount. This will prevent your fingers from contaminating the product inside the jar. You can find spoons at most beauty supply stores.

5. Start applying the cream to your face. Apply the cream in small dots to your face. Focus on problem areas, such as your cheeks and forehead. Avoid areas that tend to get very oily, such as the creases on either side of your nostrils.

If you have combination skin , focus more on the dry areas and less on the oily areas.

6. Blend the cream with your fingers. Gently massage the cream into your skin using small, upward circular motions. Do not drag your skin downward. Be sure to leave ½ inch (1.27 cm) around your eyes. Most creams are not suitable for the delicate, sensitive skin around the eyes.

7. Apply more cream if necessary. Look at your face. If there are any bare patches on your face, apply a little more cream. However, don’t slather cream over them; more cream is not necessarily better or more effective.

8. Consider applying some cream to your neck. Many people tend to forget about this area. The skin on the neck is delicate and tends to age the fastest. It also needs some attention.

9. Wipe off the excess cream with a tissue. Take a close look at your face. If you notice any lumps or lumps of cream, gently wipe them off with a tissue. This is excess cream.

10. Wait for your skin to absorb the cream before getting dressed or putting on makeup. During this time, you can do your hair or brush your teeth. You can also start putting on your bottoms, such as underwear, socks, pants, and skirts. This way, you don’t risk rubbing the cream off and getting it on anything else.
